USDA Hardiness Zone 7a

Most of Montgomery County sits in USDA Zone 7a (avg. winter low of 0–5°F). That gives us a long, generous growing season — but it also means we have to plan for tough July humidity, late-spring frosts, and the heavy clay soils typical of the Piedmont. Every plant we recommend has been chosen because it actually wants to live here.

We also pay close attention to the Chesapeake Bay watershed: minimal-runoff irrigation, slow-release fertilizer, and a strong preference for native plants that don’t need synthetic inputs to thrive.
